Ashley Woodside of Hampden and Colby-Sawyer College has been named the North Eastern Athletic Conference women’s tennis rookie of the year.

The former Hampden Academy standout went 8-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play during her first year of collegiate singles matches. She went 1-0 at the No. 1 singles position and 7-1 at second singles while also compiling an 8-4 record in doubles (7-3 at No. 1, 1-1 at No. 2).

Woodside was selected NEAC East rookie of the week three times this season.

Woodside and teammate Ashlyn Ramsay — the conference singles player of the year — also earned All-NEAC first-team doubles accolades.

Colby-Sawyer of New London, New Hampshire, went on to secure its third straight NEAC East Division championship last weekend, with Woodside winning both her singles and doubles matches during the Chargers’ 6-0 victory over Castleton State in the title match played at Colby College in Waterville.

The Chargers await the winner of the NEAC West Division tournament, to be played April 24-26, to play for the NEAC Championship on May 3 for an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
