Breast Cancer Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. These programs can help uninsured or under-insured women receive vital screening tests:

• Planned Parenthood provides breast exams and screenings on a sliding fee scale. No one is turned away because of an inability to pay. Referrals and financial help to pay for mammograms and follow up services also are available. For information, go to plannedparenthood.org/health-info/womens-health/breast-cancer-screenings.

• The Maine CDC Breast and Cervical Health Program covers the cost of mammograms to women who are uninsured, underinsured and have incomes below 250 percent of the federal poverty level. For information, go to maine.gov/dhhs/mecdc/population-health/bcp/index.htm.

• The Maine Breast Cancer Coalition Support Service Fund provides financial assistance for breast care services for low-income women. For information, go to mainebreastcancer.org/services.cfm.

UCP of Maine

BANGOR — UCP of Maine is celebrating its 60th anniversary. The celebration will kick off with an employee and guest cookout with games and activities.

The agency’s 12th annual Pumpkins in the Park will be held noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Cross Insurance Center.

UCP of Maine’s children services include behavioral health homes, home and community treatment , early childhood services (Bridges), rehabilitative and community support, outpatient therapy and a dental program though the Washington County division.

Adult services include mental health outpatient, adult residential, telehealth and other related conditions.

For children and adults, UCP offers case management and the Elizabeth Levinson Center, a 14-bed intermediate care facility.

Established in 1954, UCP of Maine is a private, nonprofit organization which is committed to advancing the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people with disabilities who have multiple needs. UCP of Maine serves children and adults in the Penobscot, Waldo, Piscataquis, Southern Aroostook, Washington and northeastern Somerset counties.

BANGOR — John Doyle has accepted the position of vice president of finance and system controller at Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems. He replaces Jeffrey Sanford, who transitioned to EMHS Beacon Health as chief financial officer earlier this year. Doyle will join the EMHS family on Dec. 1.

Doyle is a certified public accountant, has a master’s degree in business administration, and is a fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the healthcare provider, payer and consulting environments and has extensive expertise in strategic planning, revenue cycle management, and operations. He comes to EMHS from Main Line Health System in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, where he served as chief financial officer and vice president of financial operations.

OLD TOWN — Grocery Shopping To Lose Weight, Not Money: A tour of Old Town Hannaford’s With a Dietitian will take place 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Hannaford’s store.

Meet in the lobby of the Old Town Hannaford Store for the low calorie and healthy eating tour with tastings and commentary.
