FARMINGTON, Maine – Alexandra Crocker headed in a goal in double overtime to lift the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers to a 4-3 women’s soccer victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Tuesday.
The win was just the second ever for UMF against USM in women’s soccer as USM leads the series 17-2-3.
Bridget Humphrey’s shot was saved by USM goalkeeper Marissa Temple, but Crocker headed in the rebound for the win.
Crocker headed in the game’s first goal off a Humphrey pass in the 11th minute and Humphrey added an unassisted goal 10 minutes later.
Kelly Burrell responded for USM with two straight goals, the second on a Becca Tounous assist.
Avalon Amador gave UMF a 3-2 lead off a Katie Clark assist at the 56th minute, but CC Pelletier equalized for USM at the 68th minute.
Sam Hatch made four saves for UMF and Temple made 14 for USM.
Colby 1, Husson 0
At Bangor, Cami Notaro converted a rebound from a Lauren McCarthy shot in the 88th minute to lift Colby by the Eagles.
The winning goal was set up by a corner kick.
Mollie Roy notched three of Husson’s eight shots while goalkeeper Jess Poulin made 11 saves for the Eagles, now 9-6.
Emily Brook made two saves for the Mules of Waterville, now 6-6-1.
Field hockey
St. Joseph’s 2, UMF 0
At Farmington, Kelsey Diamond and Kayley Winslow each scored a second-half goal to lift St. Joseph’s by UMaine-Farmington.
After a deflected pass, St. Joe’s Effie Drew carved the end line and dished a cross to Dumond, who one-timed the shot into the cage in the 42nd minute. Winslow added the second goal 31 seconds later when she returned a rebound after an initial save by UMF goalkeeper Patty Smith.
Smith finished with two saves for UMF while Emma Astbury had one for St. Joe’s and Hillary Nash had three.
Bowdoin 7, Rhodes 1
At Brunswick, Rachel Kennedy scored four goals, matching her career-high, as Bowdoin rolled by visiting Rhodes (Tenn.) College.
The second-ranked Polar Bears (12-1) continue to put up impressive offensive numbers, now outscoring their opponents 37-2 over their last six games. Rhodes (10-3) came to Brunswick with the nation’s second-best save percentage (.875) and third-best goals against average (0.67).
Rhodes scored the game’s first goal when Julie Hetzman redirected a Kate Taylor pass. The Polar Bears answered by reeling off five first-half goals, the first two by Kennedy, the next two by Kimmy Ganong and the fifth by Adrienne O’Donnell.
Bowdoin outshot Rhodes 34-4.
