ROCKLAND, Maine — A 21-year-old South Thomaston man who was free on bail after being accused of causing significant damage while at the local hospital last year has been ordered held without bail after being charged with additional crimes.
The district attorney’s office requested that Gabriel P. Payor be held without bail because he posed a major public safety risk.
Payor was brought back to the Knox County Jail in Rockland after a brief hearing in front of Justice Daniel Billings Wednesday afternoon at Rockland District Court.
Payor was arrested Monday after police received a report from a Holmes Street resident that Payor had stolen a handgun. Rockland police found Payor but did not locate the handgun. However, officers found drugs on him including Suboxone, according to police.
He was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of drugs and violating a condition of release.
The district attorney’s office filed a motion Tuesday in court asking that Payor’s preconviction bail be revoked. The prosecution pointed out that Payor has a history of mental health and substance abuse problems and that with the handgun still not recovered, he posed a major public safety risk to the community.
Payor had been free on bail following his arrest in September 2013 for aggravated criminal mischief. Court records say Payor is accused of breaking down a secure metal door at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
