CARMEL, Maine — The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in an effort to find two men suspected of attempting to break into a Carmel residence on Friday.
Though few details were available Friday night, Sgt. William Birch said that the incident occurred at 5 p.m. at 870 Hampden Road, also known as Route 69. The sheriff’s office was called to that location to look into a report that two people were trying to break into a house there but were caught by the homeowner and fled on foot.
The suspects are described as white males, both of whom were wearing black hoodies when the attempted break-in took place, Birch said. No other identifying information was available.
Despite a search of a nearby wooded area, the two remained at large at 9 p.m. Friday, Birch said.
County authorities — including Deputy Ryan Allen and his tracking dog, Dozer — were assisted in the search by Maine State Police and a state game warden, Birch said.
Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area or who has information about the suspects or the incident is asked to call the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office at 945-4636.
