BANGOR, Maine — A local man is facing multiple charges after allegedly waving a firearm at picketers on a downtown sidewalk on Monday, according to police.
Bangor police were called to the area of Exchange and State streets shortly before noon after a man later identified as Michael Meteer, 33, had gone by the area in a pickup and waved a large handgun in the direction of picketers, according to Bangor police Sgt. Tim Cotton.
A short time after the complaint was received, Bangor police Officer Jeremy Caron found the vehicle on Market Street and stopped it, according to Cotton.
Meteer, who was a passenger in the truck, was questioned and as a result, two pellet guns were located, Cotton said. He also said Meeter initially refused to give police his identity.
Meteer was taken into custody and charged with failing to provide a correct name, terrorizing and reckless conduct, the sergeant said.
Meteer was taken to Penobscot County Jail.
Monday’s incident wasn’t Meteer first brush with local law enforcement.
According to Cotton, Meteer was charged with criminal mischief in July 2013 in connection with the smashing of a window of a tattoo parlor on Central Street.
