BANGOR, Maine — Two men and a woman face drug charges after a bust conducted by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Bangor police.

Terrence Douglas, 34, of Bennettsville, South Carolina, Tiffany Sutherland, 28, of Bangor and Timothy Thorpe, 34, of Dedham were arrested, according to MDEA Cmdr. Peter Arno.

Late Wednesday night, Bangor police Officer Nick Huggins stopped a vehicle Thorpe was driving on a southbound onramp of Interstate 95 near Hogan Road, according to Arno. Douglas and Sutherland both were passengers in the car.

Huggins found Thorpe in possession of a small amount of cocaine, Arno said.

Huggins requested a Maine State Police dog to search the car, and Trooper Barry Meserve’s partner Zorro arrived shortly after.

As the dog was sniffing the car, Douglas fled on foot and was apprehended by Zorro about 50 yards from the car, and was found to be in possession of $1,700 in cash and marijuana, Arno said.

Bangor police arrested Thorpe on a cocaine possession charge while Douglas was arrested and charged with refusing to submit to arrest. Both were taken to Penobscot County Jail.

During the subsequent investigation, police learned Douglas was staying at an Odlin Road hotel, and on Thursday morning, a search warrant on his room was conducted, with 40 grams of heroin and 41 grams of cocaine seized, Arno said. MDEA agents and Bangor police searched the room.

Arrest warrants were obtained on Thursday for Douglas and Sutherland, Arno said. Douglas had been released on bail before the execution of the search warrant.

Drug agents found the pair Thursday afternoon at a Pine View Drive residence in Winterport and arrested them. A search of the residence turned up another 22 grams of heroin, 66 grams of powder cocaine, 12 grams of crack cocaine and $4,000 in cash, along with a .44-magnum handgun, Arno said.

Douglas and Sutherland have been charged with aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs and were taken to Penobscot County Jail. Both have previous felony drug convictions.

Douglas is being held on $100,000 bail and Sutherland has a bail of $7,500, jail officials said. Both remained behind bars Friday night.

Arno said the combined street value of the drugs seized is in excess of $25,000.

Douglas’ bail was set at $100,000 cash, while Sutherland’s was set at $7,500 cash at their first court appearance via videoconference from the jail on Friday. They are next scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 9.
