CARIBOU, Maine — While snow from last weekend’s early fall storm gradually melts, far northern sections of the state could see fresh powder at the end of the week.

According to the National Weather Service, Aroostook, northern Somerset and Piscataquis counties could see snow Friday.

A low-pressure front is expected to pass east of the area Friday and produce rain, but cold air could change the precipitation to snow in far northern sections of Maine.

As of Wednesday afternoon, no weather alerts or advisories had been posted. For up-to-the-minute forecasts, visit the weather service’s website at wwerh.noaa.gov.
