BIDDEFORD, Maine — An 18-year-old man is charged with two counts of murder and one count of arson in connection with a fatal apartment fire in September.

Dylan Collins of Biddeford was taken into custody on Wednesday at his place of employment in Saco, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said.

Collins will appear in York County Superior Court at 1 p.m. Friday.

Collins is accused of setting fire to a multi-family apartment house on Main Street on Sept. 18 that claimed the lives of two of his roommates, James Ford, 21, and Michael Moore, 23. Both men died of smoke inhalation.

After being taken into custody, Collins was transported to Southern Maine Medical Center for observation and interviewed by officers from the state police and the state fire marshal’s office, McCausland said.

He was transported to the York County Jail early Friday morning.
