PHIPPSBURG, Maine — A 21-year-old local man lost an arm Thursday night in a single-vehicle crash on Parker Head Road, according to sheriff’s deputies.
Edward Grondin, 21, was apparently going too fast for the wet road conditions, according to Chief Deputy Brett Strout of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash was reported shortly before 8 p.m., according to Strout.
Grondin apparently lost control on a curve, went off the road and struck an embankment, causing his vehicle to become airborne and hit several trees, Strout said. The vehicle dropped down and became wedged in between two trees.
Strout said a witness saw the glow of lights from the car and stopped to investigate, and later found Grondin walking out on the road without his left arm.
Phippsburg EMS responded and brought Grondin to Maine Medical Center in Portland. His vehicle was totaled in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
