BANGOR, Maine — Staci Creech has been named an assistant coach for the Husson University women’s golf team, head coach Mike Dugas announced in a news release Friday.
“She will bring the experience from her college career at [the University of North Carolina] to our program,” Dugas said in the release. “Staci also still plays the game at a very high level, and will be able to instill some of the same skills she has to our players. I look forward to working with Staci to build a program that is in keeping with Husson’s golf tradition.”
Creech, the wife of University of Maine athletic director Karlton Creech, said she was “honored and grateful for the opportunity to help young women become successful student-athletes at Husson University.”
Creech helped lead UNC to a second-place finish at the 1994 ACC Championships after placing third individually. She also led the team in stroke average per round that season.
She became a Class A Member of the PGA of America in 2004, but regained her amateur status in 2008 so she could continue playing as an amateur. She since has played in the US Women’s Mid-Amateur in 2008, 2011 and 2013, and in 2009, she was selected to represent North Carolina in the USGA Women’s state team championship.
She holds a degree in education from UNC.
The Husson University women’s golf team’s inaugural season will be in the fall of 2015.
