LEICESTER, Mass. – Freshman running back John Smith racked up 210 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns on Saturday afternoon to propel Husson University of Bangor to a 41-12 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference victory over Becker College.

It was the seventh consecutive win for coach Gabby Price’s Eagles (7-1, 6-0 ECFC), who equalled the program record for wins in a season. Husson travels to Mount Ida next Saturday with the conference championship on the line.

Husson scored on the first play from scrimmage when Smith went 75 yards for a touchdown. He added a 3-yard TD run later in the quarter as the Eagles built a 28-0 halftime advantage.

Quarterback Joe Seccareccia (10-for-20 passing, 73 yds., 1 TD, 1 interception) turned in a 3-yard scoring run and Logan Steward scored from 7 yards out for Husson. The Eagles also got a 39-yard interception return for a touchdown from Rick Orio and a 3-yard touchdown pass from Seccareccia to Josiah Hartley.

Linebacker Ellis Throckmorton of Bangor was the defensive catalyst for Husson with 10 tackles, including a sack and four tackles for a loss of yardage. Jeff Turcotte had five tackles and two sacks and Orio finished with five tackles and two interceptions.

Nick Sinkfield-Shelton went 16-for-27 with 145 yards and rushed for 34 yards, including a 10-yard TD, to pace Becker (0-9, 0-6 ECFC). DeJahn Dawkins made six receptions for 87 yards and Matthew Romasco turned in a 5-yard scoring run.

Josh Lawrence paced the Hawks with 11 tackles.

MIT 55, MMA 37

At Castine, the Engineers scored 27 unanswered points over the final 20:06 of the contest to pull away for a New England Football Conference win over the Mariners at Ritchie Field.

Justin Wallace scored on touchdown runs of 3, 55 and 4 yards in the fourth quarter to help Massachusetts Institute of Technology erased a 37-28 third-quarter deficit.

Wallace finished with 261 yards on 23 carries and six touchdowns, also posting scoring runs of 3, 10 and 11 yards for the first-place Engineers (8-0).

Peter Williams completed 6 of 12 passes for 136 yards, including a 35-yard scoring strike to rad Goldsberry in the third quarter that pulled MIT within 37-34.

Maine Maritime Academy (3-5) featured a more balanced ground attack. Jacob Doolan netted 116 yards on 17 carries and James Ferrar tallied 113 yards on 25 attempts, while QB Michael Fahey posted 20 carries for 96 yards.

Fahey provided TD runs of 5 and 1 yard, while Ferrar scored on runs of 2 and 20 yards. Fahey was 6-for-13 passing for 88 yards, including a 25-yard scoring toss to Jordan Susi.

The Mariners outgained the Engineers 489-474, including 401 yards via the run with their option offense.

Cameron Wagar piled up 15 tackles and Anthony Emberley had 13 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for MIT.

Justin Lovely led MMA with eight tackles and an interception.
