HAMPDEN – Helen B. (Atkinson) Crooker, 83, resident of Hampden passed away peacefully, Monday, November 17, 2014. She was born on July 24, 1931 and was the daughter of the late William and Nellie Merrill Atkinson of Silver Ridge.
Helen moved here from Silver Ridge 64 years ago where she married her late husband Merle A. Crooker and raised her family. She attended and graduated from the Sherman High School. Helen was employed in the kitchen for MSAD 22, she was a lifetime member of The Eastern Star Grange #1, and a longtime member of Ellingwood Corner United Methodist Church in Winterport.
She was predeceased by her husband, Merle Crooker, son, Roger Crooker, sister, Marjorie LeClair, sister, Faith Kneeland, sister, Iva Goodwin, brother, Merrill Atkinson, sister Theodora Rush, sister, Lois McAvoy, brother, Fred Atkinson. Survivors include sister, Laura Jordan; sister, Beulah Kreuger; son, Brian Crooker and his wife, Wanda Weber; son, Larry Crooker and his wife Marcia; daughter, Joyce Cummings and her husband, John; son, Scott Crooker and his wife, Kim; daughter, Norma Shaw; son, Randy Crooker and his wife, Melissa; daughter, Faith Baker and her husband, Rick; daughter, Janet Crooker and her partner, Allen Townsend, as well as 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Helen will be missed by her close friends, Debbie Calderwood, Freda Davis, Lorna Snyder, and Linda Fairchild.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 PM Friday, November 21, 2014, at The Ellingwood Corner United Methodist Church, Winterport, where a memorial service for Mrs. Crooker will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, November 22, 2014. Arrangements entrusted to Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden.
