ALFRED, Maine — A Biddeford man being held on murder charges in connection with a deadly September fire in his hometown was injured at the York County Jail after jumping off a railing at the facility on Thursday morning.
Dylan Collins, 18, was injured in an apparent attempt to harm himself, according to Chief Deputy William King of the York County Sheriff’s Office.
Collins is being held in a high-security unit that allows inmates out of their cells for 90 minutes a day, according to King.
“Collins was out of his cell in the dayroom when he ascended the 15 stairs to the second-floor level, climbed the railing and jumped off,” King said.
Collins apparently landed on his knees before striking the floor after the 10-foot plus fall, King said.
He was able to sit up on his own and was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, King said. Collins is under correctional supervision at the Portland hospital.
Collins was arrested earlier this month and charged with two counts of murder in connection with a Biddeford apartment fire that claimed the lives of two men. He also faces an arson charge.
