UNION, Maine — A 19-year-old Rockland man was given a pair of summonses on Wednesday following a head-on crash.
The crash occurred at about 10 a.m. on the Union Common Road, according to Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.
Sherry Willis, 56, of Union was driving a 2012 Honda sedan west on Common Road when she attempted to go around an oil truck parked on the side of the hill making a delivery.
At the same time, Mark Pendleton, 19, of Rockland was traveling east in his 2005 Toyota sedan. As Pendleton crested the hill, Willis was still partially in his travel lane, according to the chief deputy. Pendleton attempted to brake to avoid hitting Willis’ vehicle, but sideswiped her car before his vehicle ended up on the side of the road.
Witness accounts were that Pendleton was traveling at a high rate of speed and due to evidence at the scene, Deputy Matt Elwell issued summonses to Pendleton for imprudent speed as well as failure to have insurance, Carroll said
No one was injured in the crash. Union Fire and Ambulance first responders assisted at the scene.
