GRAY, Maine — Travel conditions are expected to be dicey early this weekend with sleet and freezing rain forecast for Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Precipitation is expected to start as snow Friday night but change over to sleet and freezing snow by Saturday morning, according to the weather service.
While only up to three inches of snow are expected, freezing rain will cause ice to form on roads, making driving conditions treacherous. More snow is not out of question in the mountains.
A winter weather advisory will be in effect for much of Maine starting at 9 p.m. Friday through 2 p.m. Saturday, according to the weather service.
Affected areas include York, Cumberland, Oxford, Franklin, Somerset, Androscoggin, Kennebec, interior Hancock, Washington, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties.
The Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce posted on its Facebook page that the city’s Christmas parade has been canceled, and no makeup date has been set.
