BANGOR, Maine — A mix of wintry precipitation is forecast across Maine and is expected to last until early Saturday evening, but it will be different depending on where in the state you live, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.

The mountains of western Maine and northern New Hampshire are expected to see all snow, southern Maine and eastern New Hampshire should see icing, and the rest of the state will see “changing precipitation from all snow to a mix of sleet and freezing rain,” a winter weather advisory on the weather service’s website states.

Some areas will see 2 to 4 inches of snow, others will see a quarter of an inch of ice and some will see a combination of snow and ice.

“Snow will transition to sleet and freezing rain during the morning,” the advisory states. “Temperatures may begin to warm above freezing during the afternoon … but some locations may stay colder with freezing rain lasting later into the afternoon.”

Temperatures will remain around 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Residents are urged to take caution with the ice, which is expected to cover roadways and driveways, making conditions very slippery.

Temperatures on Sunday are predicted to be lower, with below zero readings Sunday night in some parts of the state.
