BATH, Maine — A 54-year-old man wanted by police for allegedly violating “Peeping Tom” laws and failing to register as a sex offender turned himself in at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on Monday afternoon.

Stephen McIntire of Bath was convicted of gross sexual assault in 1997. In a separate incident, he was convicted of invasion of privacy in 2004, according to Bath police Detective Sgt. David Beauregard.

Because of his sex offender conviction, McIntire is required to register as a sex offender with local police for the rest of his life, but Beauregard said in late November McIntire had not registered since August.

McIntire also allegedly “peeped” in windows on the Hyde School campus in Bath for several days in late October and early November.

In one case, a hidden video camera allegedly captured photos of McIntire looking in the window, Beauregard said.

Bath police issued a warrant for McIntire’s arrest, charging failure to comply with the sex offender notification act, violation of privacy and criminal trespass.

McIntire surrendered at Two Bridges Regional Jail on Monday afternoon, jail officials confirmed. Bail had not yet been set and no court date was immediately available.
