OWLS HEAD, Maine — The driver of a car that flipped on its side Monday morning was charged with drunken driving.
Lorraine Fowles, 52, of Owls Head was traveling south on the Ingraham’s Hill section of Route 73 when she lost control of her 2007 Ford Freestyle, according to Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Timothy Carroll. He said Fowles crossed through the northbound lane and struck an embankment and the vehicle rolled on its side.
Fowles was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland by Deputy John Hansen and charged with operating under the influence and driving to endanger. She was not injured and there were no passengers in the vehicle.
The crash, which occurred shortly after 8 a.m., resulted in traffic being reduced to one lane for nearly an hour and blocked the road to Rockland for a short while as the vehicle was being removed on a flatbed. The vehicle was a total loss, Carroll said.
Members of the Owls Head Fire Department, Rockland police and Rockland emergency medical services also responded to the crash.
