NEW CANADA, Maine — A New Canada man was arrested and charged after turning himself over to police Tuesday afternoon in connection with the thefts of three vehicles all reported stolen that same day, according to Sgt. Chad Fuller of the Maine State Police.

Patrick Daigle, 26, was charged with three counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and three counts of operating after suspension, Fuller said late Tuesday.

Troopers had responded to a report of a vehicle off the road around 3 a.m. Tuesday in Hersey Township, Fuller said. When the officers arrived on the scene they found the car but no driver.

The car was subsequently identified as one reported stolen in Wallagrass, Fuller said.

Just before 4 a.m., the East Millinocket Police Department received a report of a vehicle stolen from a parking lot near the Irving Mainway and was seen getting on Interstate 95, Fuller said.

The car was later found at the Circle K convenience store in Sherman where a suspect caught on surveillance tape and identified as Daigle took a third vehicle that belonged to a store employee.

Meanwhile, Fuller said he and his K9 Gleni were able to track footprints in the snow at the scene of the Wallagrass stolen vehicle to Daigle’s residence in New Canada.

Fuller said an arrest warrant was issued for Daigle and Maine State Police troopers searched for Daigle with assistance from the Maine Warden Service.

Daigle ultimately turned himself in Tuesday afternoon and was arrested without incident, Fuller said.

All three vehicles were recovered and Daigle was released after posting a $300 cash bail.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 20 in Houlton, Feb. 2 in Fort Kent and Feb. 4 in Lincoln.
