ELLSWORTH, Maine — Two years and four months after a local pharmacy was robbed of prescription drugs, local police have made an arrest in the case.
Nicholas P. St. Louis, 32, of Otis was arrested Monday on charges of robbery and stealing drugs, according to Ellsworth police Detective Dotty Small.
Small said information investigated by police within the past three weeks led to St. Louis’ arrest.
In the robbery, which occurred on Aug. 9, 2012, a man walked into the Walgreens Pharmacy on High Street and handed a note to an employee behind the pharmacy counter. The note demanded the clerk hand over the store’s entire supply of a certain drug, which police have declined to identify, and the man threatened to “shoot the place up” if the employee did not comply with the demand, police have said.
At the time of the robbery, police indicated that the amount of drugs given to the man had a wholesale value of $78. Police have not indicated the physical quantity of the drug St. Louis is accused of taking from the pharmacy.
Small said police believe the stolen drugs were consumed long ago. None of them were recovered.
St. Louis was arrested Monday afternoon without incident, and then released later the same day on $2,500 cash bail.
Robbery is a Class B felony crime in Maine, which with a conviction can result in a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $20,000. Stealing drugs is a Class C felony that is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
