BOSTON — The Ottawa Senators presented new coach Dave Cameron with his first NHL victory on Saturday.
Right winger Bobby Ryan beat Boston’s Tuukka Rask with the deciding goal in the shootout, giving the Senators a 3-2 decision over the Bruins.
The win, only the third in the last 11 games for Ottawa, came in Cameron’s second game after taking over for Paul MacLean, who was fired.
The loss was the fifth in the last six games for the Bruins.
Center Mika Zibanejad, who scored Ottawa’s first goal of the game, opened the shootout with a goal, but Boston left winger Brad Marchand matched that in the second round.
Robin Lehner stopped center Patrice Bergeron before Ryan, stopped by Rask on a semi-breakaway in overtime, scored.
The Senators (12-12-5) tied the game 4:17 into the third period on the power play.
A shot from the blue line by center Kyle Turris hit teammate Mark Stone on the left skate and went right to center David Legwand, who slammed it home to extend his points streak to five games.
Stone hobbled off the ice and went right to the locker room, but quickly returned.
Right winger Craig Cunningham scored his first NHL goal and right winger Loui Eriksson also scored for the Bruins (15-13-2)
Cunningham hit the Bruins’ second post of the day on a semi-breakaway after the Senators tied the game.
Both goalies made 29 saves in the 65 minutes of game action.
Cunningham, playing in his second game since coming back from Providence, took a pass from defenseman Zdeno Chara after Turris failed to hold the puck in the zone, and scored on a slap shot. The shot didn’t seem that hard but made its way through Lehner’s pads.
Ottawa got that goal back on a nifty move by Zibanejad, who faked a slapper before beating Rask with a wrist shot for his eighth goal of the season.
After Eriksson took a pass from defenseman Kevan Miller and broke the tie, Rask came up with a huge save on left winger Colin Greening later in the second period.
Bergeron left the game in the third period after being slashed on the left hand by Ottawa Senators center Mike Hoffman, but was back for the overtime.
