BREWER — Madyson’s Winter Ball Fundraiser, a special winter celebration fun for the whole family, will be held 4-9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Next Generation Theatre, 39 Center St.

The ball will focus on children from 4 to 6 p.m. with music and a special guest appearance by Elsa, her sister Anna and their huggable snowman buddy, Olaf

After 6 p.m. hors d’oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be made available to those age 21 and older. Children will be allowed to stay. Fancy dress is encouraged but not required.

Proceeds from the event will go to help one of the members of Between Friends Art Center family, Madyson Gray, 13, of Winterport. Proceeds from the event will go toward a fund for a new i-Pad communication device for Madyson.

Madyson loves music, computers, her family and her dog, Buddy. She has a great sense of humor and loves to tease her sister, Morgan. Madyson was born with a very rare disorder called leukodystrophy and she is the only one known to have her exact type. She struggles to do what any other 13-year-old can do easily, but she always has a smile on her face no matter what. Madyson’s speech is tough to understand but she tries very hard to let everyone know what she’s saying. She has a communication device that she uses very well but it is heavy and cumbersome and very difficult to travel with. The device mounts to a bar that connects to her wheelchair. When it is connected it completely blocks her view of anything in front of her.

Organizers of the event are hoping to purchase an i-Pad and communication apps that are similar to the program on Madyson’s larger device. The i-Pad would be easy to transport and use every day. She would be able to order her own meal at a restaurant and make her needs known without having to repeat herself many times.

Tickets for the event are $10, $5 students 17 and under, $25 per family, $10 per adult. Tickets may be purchased at the gift shop at Between Friends Art Center or reserved by calling 989-7100.
