SACO, Maine — Police on Thursday afternoon continued to investigate a shooting during a home invasion that occurred early Thursday morning.

A resident of the Hillview Avenue home, Steven Chabot, 55, suffered multiple gunshot wounds from an unknown intruder, Saco Deputy Chief Jeffrey Holland said in a statement.

Rachel Owens, 55, of Londonberry, New Hampshire, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in an upstairs bathroom, according to Holland. Both she and Chabot were taken to Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Chabot’s wife, Carol Chabot, 55, was not injured in the attack, according to Holland.

The attack occurred when an unknown intruder forced entry into the home, awakening the Chabots, Holland said. The couple sought refuge in separate rooms upon being confronted.

Steven Chabot was struck several times by gunfire, Holland said, while Owens was attacked in a separate bedroom, Holland said. Carol Chabot was hiding under furniture and was not harmed.

Saco police and the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit are investigating the incident, which Saco Police Chief Bradley Paul described as “ very active and fluid.”
