VASSALBORO, Maine — Five new Bangor police officers were among 56 who earned their badges at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s commencement ceremonies on Friday.

The new officers have spent 18 weeks studying and training on topics ranging from crime scene processing to investigating domestic violence and sexual assault, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a statement.

Superior Court Justice William Stokes was the commencement speaker.

“You bring the constitution to life every day, and you are the first step in implementing the Bill of Rights,” he told the officers. “Congratulations to committing yourselves to serve your communities.”

The new Bangor officers are Jordan Bragan, Shannon Davis, Daniel Gastia, Evan Haskell and Tyler Rusby.
