WILTON, Maine — A young Wilton man has been charged with the murder of his grandmother, according to Maine State Police.

Dana Craney, 22, was charged early Sunday morning in connection with the death of Joanne Goudreau, 67. Her body was discovered Saturday afternoon in the backyard of the mobile home they shared after Wilton police officers were called by other relatives to check on the woman’s well-being, according to a press release issued by Steve McCausland of the Maine State Police.

Craney was at the house at 1130 Weld Road when the police arrived and was brought to the Farmington Police Department for questioning. Police consulted with the Maine Attorney General’s office before charging Craney with murder. Craney is being held at the Franklin County Jail.

Detectives are not saying how they believe Goudreau died until the state medical examiner completes an autopsy. The autopsy is scheduled later Sunday in Augusta, McCausland said.
