FAIRFIELD, Maine — A lone man robbed a Main Street convenience store early Friday morning, and police are searching for him.

Fairfield police Sgt. Paul St. Amand said the robbery at Cumberland Farms was reported shortly before 2 a.m.

Although the robber did not display a weapon, he allegedly told the clerk he was armed and demanded cash. The clerk could not get the register opened and the man got away with only a pack of cigarettes, St. Amand said.

The man fled the store on foot, St. Amand said.

The robber is 6 feet tall, possibly Hispanic, has dark hair, a slim build and a thin goatee, the sergeant said.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Fairfield police at 453-9322.
