BABSON PARK, Florida — The Webber International Lady Warriors rolled to a 23-point halftime lead en route to a 71-54 basketball victory over the Husson University Eagles Monday.

LaQuandra Brazill paced Webber (9-1) with 18 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Jessica Colson chipped in with 14 points and Deslyn Applewhaite added 12.

Stephanie Comstock sparked Husson (3-4) with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Katy Brochu contributed 8 points and 12 rebounds.

Husson committed 22 turnovers and Webber capitalized by scoring 30 points off turnovers.

Husson outrebounded Webber 46-42.

Coast Guard 65, Colby 63

At Daytona Beach, Florida, Torie Sutherland scored inside with five seconds left to lift the Coast Guard Academy by Colby.

Colby’s Brooke Chandor hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 63 with 2:34 left, but neither team could score until Sutherland converted the game-winner.

Meghan Fornaro paced Coast Guard (4-4) with 20 points.

Carylanne Wolfington finished with 25 points and 8 rebounds to lead Colby (8-2). Caitlyn Nolan chipped in with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists. Chandlor and Mia Diplock each added 8 points.

WPI 49, Southern Maine 44

At Westfield, Massachusetts, senior forward Dani Davis scored 14 points to lead Worcester Polytechnic Institute as the Engineers hung on for the win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in the opening round of the Westfield State Holiday Tournament at the Woodward Center.

WPI improved to 7-2 and will face host Westfield State in the championship game Tuesday at 3 p.m. Southern Maine drops to 6-4 and will face Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the consolation game at 1 p.m. Westfield State defeated RPI 75-43 in the other opening round game.

The game proved to be a defensive struggle with USM shooting 37 percent from the floor while turning the ball over 24 times. WPI shot just 34.5 percent from the floor and 3-18 from three-point range.

Davis tallied a game high 14 points on 6-20 shooting from the floor. Lisa Mendez added 11 points.

Stephanie Gallagher led USM with 12 points and five assists. Megan Pelletier added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Men’s Basketball

Emory 84, Bates 65

At Atlanta, Georgia, No. 7 nationally ranked Emory University handed Bates its first loss of the season on the first day of the Emory Tournament.

Bates (7-1) will face Birmingham-Southern (6-3) at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the tournament consolation game.

Alex Foster scored 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting for Emroy, including 16 points in the second half. Michael Florin passed out 11 assists, helping five Emory players score in double figures.

The Bobcats received a game-high 23 points along with eight assists from senior captain Graham Safford, as well as a career-high 11 points off the bench from junior Mike Newton. Billy Selmon added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds in a homecoming game for the senior captain.

Guilford 87, Southern Maine 80

At Washington, senior Matt McCarthy scored 20 points to lead three players in double figures as the Guilford College Quakers outlasted the University of Southern Maine Huskies in the second game of the Catholic University of America Classic at the DuFour Center.

Guilford improves to 7-2 and advances to the championship game of the Catholic University Tournament. Southern Maine drops to 3-6 and will play York (Pa.) at 3 p.m.Tuesday in the consolation game.

McCarthy was 5-for-10 from the field and 4-for-7 from three-point range for the game-high total. Junior Jonny Rice added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Junior Jacob Littlefield led the Huskies with 18 points. Sophomore Zach Leal added 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Juniors Sean Caddigan and Cole Libby chipped in with 11 and 12 points each.

Southern Maine opened the second half with back-to-back threes from Caddigan and Libby sandwiched a layup from Rice to trim the Huskies’ deficit to 42-38 with 18:30 to play. However, the Quakers responded with a 18-9 run over the next five minutes to lead 60-47. Rice scored nine points in the run for Guilford.
