Family responsibility

I read Michael Cormier’s article three times looking for mention of “parents” in his carefully crafted pitch for more government/bureaucratic influence in the raising of our children.

The word parents was never mentioned.

Michael, your improbable solutions of expanded education focus on symptoms not causes.

The cause of our children’s disinterest in learning is the result of the recent disinterest of parents in mentoring and guiding their children’s education.

Parents committed to the well-being and proper learning habits of their children is the cure.

State imposed substitution for family responsibility never works. Never.

Religious intolerance

America’s First Amendment rights to freedom of religion and speech apply equally to all citizens; those who believe Jesus is in fact the “reason for the season” as well as those who do not.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people seem to believe freedom of religion and speech is reserved only for them and their friends, but not for others. In the case of the Bangor business which displayed Jesus is the “reason for the season” in it’s store front window; the wide range of threats from not shopping there to actual harm of person or place is at the very least bullying or worse, intolerance.

A person’s religion is not as they say, but as they do. A person’s religion is as they are. Therefore, one absolutely must live out what one believes. Therefore, kudos to the Bangor business that has chosen to stand up to bullying and intolerance of a few small minded people.

Without freedom of religion, can we even have freedom of speech?

Remember, over all the world and in every nation, Jesus is still the “reason for the season.”
