ROCKPORT, Maine — Flash freezing of water on the road led to a crash that rerouted Route 1 traffic Monday morning and leaves a section of town without power.
The crash occurred shortly after 4 a.m. when a pickup truck slid off Route 1 and knocked down a utility pole, said Rockport Police Chief Mark Kelley. The crash occurred next to the Mr. Wat restaurant, the chief said.
The driver was not injured. Information on the driver was not immediately available.
Power remained out for more than 500 customers as of 8 a.m., according to Central Maine Power. Route 1 traffic was also still being rerouted after 8 a.m., Kelley said. The chief said he has been told that the road and power should be restored in a little more than an hour.
