Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson has reached out to LSU and appears to be interested in transferring to Baton Rouge and using his final season of eligibility playing for head coach Les Miles.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Monday that LSU is exploring the possibility of Golson transferring. The school would have to obtain a waiver from the Southeastern Conference since Golson was declared academically ineligible for the 2013 season. The SEC allows graduate student transfers without waivers if the student maintained eligibility, had no significant disciplinary issues at the old school and earned all possible Academic Progress Rate points.

Golson is a senior and is scheduled to graduate in May. Just last week, Golson came off the bench in Notre Dame’s 31-28 victory over LSU in the Music City Bowl. He had started the first 12 games of the season, but was benched in favor of sophomore Malik Zaire.

He finished this season with 3,445 passing yards and 29 touchdowns. He also rushed for eight touchdowns and 283 yards.

Following the 2012 regular season, Golson led the Irish to the BCS title game where Notre Dame lost to Alabama, 42-14.

He sat out the entire 2013 campaign for academic violations.

Golson could be one of at least two high profile quarterbacks who might transfer. Rumors have swirled around Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller. Miller, who has missed the entire season with a shoulder injury, has been rumored to be looking to transfer to Florida State, Duke or Oregon.
