ROCKLAND, Maine — A section of Pleasant Street will be closed for two weeks later this month to accommodate construction of a hotel that will be the city’s tallest building.
The code office issued a road closure permit this week to allow for construction of the five-story hotel at the intersection of Main and Pleasant streets. The short section of Pleasant Street that runs from Union to Main streets will be closed Jan. 12 through Jan. 24.
A crane will be placed on the street Jan. 12 to begin erecting the hotel. Structural steel will be brought in on a flatbed truck during that period as the hotel takes shape.
The hotel was approved by the Rockland Planning Board in June, and the foundation work since has been completed.
The ADZ project — its principal owner being Cabot Lyman of Lyman Morse Boatbuilding in Thomaston — will stand 57 feet high with an elevator shaft reaching 61 feet and solar panels that will increase the overall height to 70 feet.
The project is estimated to cost $2.9 million, with the hotel to feature 26 suites. It is expected to open in July.
