LEWISTON, Maine — A 24-year-old Lewiston man was arrested late Wednesday afternoon in connection with the death last month of his infant son, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a news release.
Danny Adams was taken into custody by detectives and charged with murder, McCausland said. After his arrest, Adams was taken to a Lewiston hospital for observation. He later will be taken to Androscoggin County Jail.
The charge stems from the death of Adams’ 3-month-old son, Zade Adams, who was found unresponsive in his bassinet on the morning of Dec. 14, McCausland said.
The Maine State Police and Lewiston police have been investigating the death for the past 3½ weeks, McCausland said.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the baby died from asphyxia, he said.
The father and son, along with the boy’s mother, 18-year-old Kaitlyn Baker, lived in an apartment at 77 Rideout Ave.
McCausland said Adams likely will make his initial court appearance on Thursday or Friday.
The arrest changes last year’s homicide number in Maine to 21 for the year.
Of those deaths, 14 were the result of domestic violence, including this latest Lewiston case, McCausland said. Eight of the domestic violence victims in 2014 were children under the age of 13.
