EDGECOMB, Maine — A Round Pond woman was taken to the hospital after she apparently turned into the path of a Pepsi delivery truck, causing a crash about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday on Route 1 in Edgecomb.
Emergency medical services and fire department personnel helped remove Jean McAlice from the vehicle. She was taken to the Miles Campus of LincolnHealth in Damariscotta.
McAlice, 83, was later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to Alan Crowell, spokesman for LincolnHealth. McAlice’s status was listed as fair as of Thursday, a representative for Maine Medical Center said.
McAlice was driving a Dodge Dakota four-door pickup truck north on Route 1 in Edgecomb when she reportedly turned left into the path of the larger truck operated by Justin Bearce, 32, of Waterville, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Brendan Kane said.
According to Kane, McAlice was attempting to turn into Sheepscot River Pottery at 34 Route 1. Her vehicle was pushed into an embankment off a driveway to Sheepscot River Pottery.
The passenger side of the Dakota was significantly damaged as the passenger side and back windows were broken and the back passenger side wheel was separated from the vehicle.
The Edgecomb Fire Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Wiscasset Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
Both the north and southbound lanes of Route 1 remained open with fire department personnel directing traffic away from the crash scene, which was cleared at about 1:21 p.m.
