CAMDEN, Maine — A Rockport woman was charged with theft after police said she walked out of two different Hannaford supermarkets in two days with carts full of unpaid groceries.
Susan Rainville, 49, was issued summonses for two counts of theft by Camden police, according to Detective Curt Andrick.
He said the charges came after an employee spotted her leaving the Camden store Dec. 13 with a cartful of groceries. Police reviewed store surveillance cameras and were able to identify her and determine she had not paid for the items.
The investigation also determined she had been to the Rockland Hannaford and committed the same offense, Andrick said. The items stolen from the two stores were valued at nearly $500.
In an unrelated case, the department issued a summons Thursday to Emily Mills, 36, of Camden for making a false public alarm or report, Andrick said.
The case stems from a report she filed in April 2014 that numerous items, including electronics and clothing, had been stolen. The detective said the department received new information that led to the charge.
He declined to provide additional information but said the department takes cases such as this seriously because it takes away time and resources from legitimate crime investigations.
