ROCKLAND, Maine — James Chaousis II will begin work as Rockland’s next city manager the first week of March.

Monday night, city councilors voted unanimously to approve an agreement with Chaousis, who is the town manager of Boothbay.

“I’m humbled and excited,” Chaousis said upon approval of the agreement.

He said he expects a discussion over the next few years on what the community expects in terms of the level of services local government will provide. Such talks will occur in the midst of other conversations about future of property taxes and other revenue streams for the municipality, he said.

Chaousis, who expects to begin work March 2, will be paid a starting salary of $92,000 per year.

Chaousis has been town manager in Boothbay since November 2010. Before that, he served as town manager in his hometown of Livermore Falls.

City councilors also thanked Tom Luttrell, who has been acting city manager since December 2013, when James Smith resigned to return to Brewer. Luttrell welcomed Chaousis.

“I’m looking forward to going back to having one job,” said Luttrell, who has been finance director for the city since January 2007.
