AUGUSTA, Maine — Work continued Wednesday morning to remove the wreckage of a tractor-trailer that overturned on Interstate 95 on Tuesday, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said.

Traffic remain at one lane and backups are expected, according to McCausland.

The truck’s driver, Matthew Blackburn, 42, of Portland, was not injured.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area as the cleanup and removal of the wreck is expected to take much of the day Wednesday.

In addition to removing the truck, work continues on the nearby Bond Brook Bridge, which was damaged in another accident last week. The work sites are about a mile apart.

Meanwhile in Lewiston, the wreckage of a tractor-trailer accident on the Maine Turnpike was removed prior to the morning commute, McCausland said.

Lee Gessin, 33, of Staten Island lost control of the truck and ran into concrete barriers near exit 80, McCausland said.

Gessin was not injured in the accident and it took 12 hours to clear the wreckage. The truck’s cab was demolished.

The southbound offramp of Exit 80 will be closed to replace the barrier that was damaged in the accident. All other Exit 80 ramps are open, and drivers should use exits 86 or 75 as alternate routes to Lewiston.

Traffic in the area of that crash, at mile marker 111 in the northbound lanes, was expected to be slowed.
