FREEPORT, Maine — Several businesses were briefly evacuated Wednesday morning after an odor of propane gas came from the buildings at Village Station.

Freeport Deputy Fire Chief Paul Conley said the situation lasted about 15-20 minutes, and firefighters were called to the area around 10 a.m.

Conley said the businesses run on propane fuel and the propane tanks ran dry. He added the public or employees were never in any danger but authorities were using caution.

“Until we isolated what the cause was, we pulled the fire alarms and evacuated the complex,” Conley said.

Employees are back inside their businesses.
