LINCOLN, Maine — Town Clerk Shelly Crosby will end a 7½-year career in Lincoln town government when she takes a job in Orono, officials said Friday.

The 43-year-old Crosby, who was paid $42,346, submitted her resignation on Jan. 10. Crosby served as town clerk since September 2010. Prior to that, she worked as a town events coordinator and recreation department assistant. She will leave her position on Jan. 23 to take an assistant town clerk’s post in Orono. Her new salary is not finalized, but it figures to be slightly less than she was paid in Lincoln, Crosby said.

Orono Town Manager Sophie Wilson said Friday that the committee that interviewed and recommended hiring Crosby said that she will “fit in well with our team.

“The team that interviewed her was impressed with her credentials and her enthusiasm and her dedication to residents and their issues,” said Wilson, who was not directly involved in Crosby’s hiring.

“It was an opportunity for me to take on a new challenge and to expand my abilities as a clerk,” Crosby said Friday of her new job. “Lincoln has provided me much growth and warmest regards. I certainly am still planning to live here so I will still be around and I deeply appreciate all of the support they [town residents] have given me.”

Assistant Town Clerk Diana Hill will work as interim town clerk when Crosby leaves, Crosby said.
