WINSLOW, Maine — Two people were injured Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Carter Memorial Drive and Augusta Road, according to local police.
Police were dispatched to the scene at about 1:40 p.m., according to a press release issued Saturday by the Winslow Police Department.
Raymond Couture, 67, and his wife, Pamela Couture, 64, both of Winslow, were take brought to Thayer Hospital in Waterville with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Raymond Couture was driving a 2006 Dodge van at the time of the accident.
The two other vehicles involved in the accident were a 2008 Chevy pickup truck, driven by Patrick Routhier, 66, of Waterville, and a 1999 Isuzu sport utility vehicle, driven by Kurt Davis, 41, of Winslow.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but neither speed nor alcohol was a factor, the press release said. One driver apparently was blinded by the sun and the glare of the roadway and ran a red light.
The press release did not specify which driver drove into the intersection or in what order the vehicles struck each other.
Traffic on the Winslow side of the bridge was backed up for “an extended amount of time,” the press release said.
