OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — A four-alarm fire in Old Orchard Beach is under investigation after flames burned through the Americana Motel Tuesday night.

First responders were called to the scene on Heath Street a little before 9 p.m.

As of 11:30 p.m., crews were still on scene trying to put the flames out.

The town’s fire chief says no one in the building at this time of the year. They believe the fire started on the second floor of the building.

One witness who lives next door says the fire spread within minutes.

“I went inside and grabbed my coat and came back out, and by the time I got my coat on and came back out, which couldn’t have taken more than 2 minutes, the whole thing was up in flames. I’ve never seen something go up that fast,” Mike Day said.

Crews closed First Street and Heath Street for several hours, and the power was out in the surrounding area because of the flames.

Investigators are looking into an official cause.
