BATH, Maine — A portion of Route 1 was closed for about an hour Thursday morning after a passenger car swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with an 18-wheel tractor-trailer.
The car’s driver, whose name was not immediately available, apparently lost control of the vehicle and swerved into oncoming traffic, causing the truck to strike the car on its side door, Bath police Lt. Robert Savary said.
One person in the car was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, he said. The driver of the truck was not hurt.
The viaduct, a section of Route 1 in Bath, was closed after the crash, which occurred at 10:50 a.m.
The viaduct is the main access to the Sagadahoc Bridge, which carries Route 1 over the Kennebec River between Bath and Woolwich.
Traffic was rerouted on to Vine Street, Savary said.
No additional information was immediately available.
