ELLSWORTH, Maine — An East Machias man will spend six months behind bars in connection with a 2012 accident that killed his 16-year-old passenger.

Aaron Foss, 22, was handed down his sentence under a plea agreement to charges of driving to endanger and reckless conduct on Tuesday, Hancock County District Attorney Matt Foster said.

In addition to jail time, Foss’ driver’s license was suspended for four years and he received a $575 fine and was ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution and to perform 100 hours of community service.

The February 2012 accident claimed the life of Francis Finn, 16, of Whiting.

While Foss wasn’t seriously injured in the accident, Finn was killed instantly.

Foss had lost control of his pickup on Route 191, went airborne on a slight knoll and crashed into a utility pole and a tree.

Finn had been a three-sport athlete at Washington Academy at the time of his death.
