EMBDEN, Maine — A local man was injured Wednesday when his vehicle went down an embankment on Route 16, according to police.

Red Green, 67, traveled about 30-50 feet down the steep embankment and landed on the frozen surface of Alder Brook, Chief Deputy James Ross of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office said.

Green’s vehicle was down so low that it was not visible to routine traffic, according to Ross. Green had apparently swerved to avoid a deer in the road.

A school bus driver passing through the area had seen Green’s vehicle and called police, according to Ross.

Green, who was the lone occupant in the vehicle, was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Ross said.
