SULLIVAN, Maine — A local man remained hospitalized Tuesday in Bangor after he seriously injured himself Saturday evening while riding a dirt bike on the frozen surface of Flanders Pond, according to officials.

Aaron Robidoux, 25, was listed in critical condition Tuesday at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Robidoux was injured around 7:35 p.m. Saturday as he was riding a 1999 Yamaha dirt bike off the ice of the pond and onto the shore, according to Cpl. John MacDonald of Maine Warden Service.

“It appears that he hit a rock, several trees, and a camp before coming to rest,” MacDonald wrote Tuesday in an email.

MacDonald said Robidoux suffered internal, head and spinal injuries in the crash. The Sullivan man was transported by ambulance to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth and then to EMMC from there, he said.

“Speed and alcohol are likely contributing factors in this crash,” MacDonald wrote.

Members of the Maine State Police and Ellsworth Police Department assisted wardens with the case, he added.
