Husson women’s soccer coach accepts position in Virginia

BANGOR, Maine — Husson University head women’s soccer coach and sports information director Carly Gettler has accepted a new coaching position in Richmond, Virginia, and will be departing Husson on Feb. 6.

She will be coaching in the Richmond Strikers’ club program and will be doing website and social media development for the club, which is for youngsters of all ages.

Gettler played two years in the program before moving on to play at the University of Richmond.

Her new position will allow her to pursue multiple club and collegiate opportunities in Virginia.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision because of my players at Husson. I’m proud of everything they’ve accomplished, and they are poised to do some amazing things the next few years,” Gettler said in a news release. “They are a fantastic group of young women, and it has been an honor to coach them.”

In three seasons at Husson, Gettler led the women’s soccer program to three consecutive North Atlantic Conference semifinal appearances while posting an 18-8-1 conference record.

NFL investigators reach out to Columbia physics department

The NFL team investigating why 11 of 12 footballs used by the New England Patriots in their AFC Championship Game win were underinflated has asked the physics department at Columbia University for help, according to The New York Times.

The newspaper reported that a partner at the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison made the call to the physics department Monday. Ted Wells, who along with NFL executive vice president Jeff Pash is leading the investigation, is co-chair of the litigation department at the law firm.

“He would like to consult with a physicist on matters relating to gas physics,” the newspaper cited notes from an administrative manager, referring to the partner, Lorin L. Reisner, who initiated the contact with the Ivy League university.

Records obtained by the Times showed that Reisner also emailed Columbia’s physics department, asking for help learning how weather conditions can affect football pressure.
