WATERVILLE — The 14th annual Fantasy Baseball Trip to benefit the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville will be held Wednesday-Sunday, July 29-Aug. 2. Games will be July 29, White Sox at Red Sox; July 30, Tigers at Orioles; July 31, Braves at Phillies; Aug. 1, Braves at Phillies, and Aug. 2, Nationals at Mets. BAILEYVILLE — The Woodland Lady Dragons will host the third annual Pink Zone basketball game against the Calais Lady Blue Devils at 5 p.m. for junior varsity and 6:30 p.m. for varsity Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Woodland High School. Calais Regional Hospital is sponsoring the game to raise awareness about breast cancer. All fans wearing pink will be eligible for special door prizes. BANGOR — Husson University will hold 15, one-day basketball clinics throughout the school year for boys and girls in grades 3-8. The clinics will focus on skill development such as ballhandling, footwork, shooting, passing, along with other basic skills and concepts. BANGOR — The Maine Athletic Club’s Mark LeClerc and retired Maine high school basketball coach Bob Cimbollek are offering a basketball consulting service for players, teams and coaches.The service will offer individual lessons to players on offensive skills and basketball shooting day camps. It also has a segment for basketball lessons that include an Accushot shooting device, a manual on shooting and a one-on-one game. HAMPDEN — Eastern Maine Hoops, directed by Lenny Holmes of Maine Hoops and Mark Leclerc of MAC, has announced the placement and tryout times for club teams in the Bangor area. Placement and tryout information is available at Hampden Recreation Center, but the schedule is Feb. 1 and 8: 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for grades 4-6 boys and girls; 12:15-1:30 p.m. for 7th grade boys and girls; 1:15-2:30 p.m. for 8th grade boys and girls; and 2:15-3:30 p.m. for high school boys and girls. Weekly drill and skills, team practice, 20-plus games, uniforms, discounted individual instruction, experienced coaches. The cost is $395. You do not have to attend both dates listed. There will be a $10 placement fee and all players will be placed on a team. If you cannot attend, another player placement will be held near the end of February. OLD TOWN — The Old Town Recreation Center will hold three youth basketball tournaments in March. The Jr. Coyote Classic is open to youth travel basketball teams, which are set up for B Level teams, and will not be open to AAU caliber teams. Entry to the tournament is $200. Teams will play a minimum of three games.The dates for the tournaments are: March 14-15 for third and fourth grade boys; March 20-22 for fifth and sixth grade girls; and March 28-29 for fifth and sixth grade boys. ORONO — The Friends of UMaine Women’s Basketball group is organizing a bus trip to the Black Bears’ 1 p.m. game at New Hampshire on Sunday, March 1. The bus will leave Old Town at 7:30 a.m. and make stops in Bangor and Newport. If needed, other stops will be added. The cost of the trip is $50 per person which includes motorcoach service and a ticket to the game. SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Registration open to girls and boys junior high and high school basketball teams for the 23rd annual Great Harbor Shoot-Out basketball tournament March 20-23, at area gyms on Mount Desert Island, Trenton and Ellsworth. Last year, nearly 90 teams participated in the fundraiser for Harbor House and area youth programs. There will be four divisions for junior high and high school girls and boys teams. MOUNT DESERT ISLAND — The second annual Mount Desert Island YMCA’s Bar Bender’s Association Powerlifting Competition will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at the MDI YMCA. ROAD RACING
ORONO — The Black Bear Marathon and Half Marathon will take place on June 21, on the University of Maine Campus in Orono. A Vendor Expo will be held June 20, in the University of Maine Fieldhouse. The race starts at 7:30 a.m. There is a 6-hour limit on the marathon course. There is an option to register for the early start time of 6:30 a.m. for those who feel they may need the extra hour to finish the marathon. Early start is not available for the half marathon. The half marathon course will start on campus and travel through Orono and Old Town back to the bike path on campus. The full marathon course is a double loop of the half. BANGOR — Bangor Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its 2015 Ski and Snowboard lessons at Hermon Mountain. Session 2 will be Feb. 3-March 3, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Each offers four, one-hour lessons and up to an hour of free ski time. Transportation to and from the mountain is participant’s responsibility. Fees for the ski program are $75 for a Bangor resident, and $85 for a nonresident per session. Fees for snowboarding are $95 for Bangor residents, and $105 for nonresidents, per session. SLED DOG RACING
GREENVILLE — The Wilderness Sled Dog Committee has decided to shorten the 100-mile race slated for Feb. 7 to 66 miles due to safety issues. The race starts at 9 a.m. and will proceed through lands owned by race partners Plum Creek Timber Co. and Appalachian Mountain Club. The race will travel out of Leisure Life Resort on Lily Bay Road in Greenville, through Moosehead Riders Snowmobile trails to outer Scammon Road and to what is known as the 100 Mile Wilderness. The trail will travel along trails maintained by AMC and out to West Branch Pond Camps and return to Leisure Life Resort to a bonfire and spectators.
