CASTLETON, Vt. — Husson University men’s basketball got back on track with an 88-60 North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball win over Castleton State Friday night at Glenbrook Gym.

The Eagles stretched their lead past 30 in the second half

Husson connected on 14 shots from beyond the arc, shooting 45.2 percent from 3-point land and 44.2 percent overall to improve to 14-3 and 10-1 in NAC action.

Castleton outrebounded the Eagles 42-41 but went just 4-for-20 from beyond the arc and hit on 39.7 of its shots overall to fall to 6-4 in conference play and 9-8 overall.

Husson’s Trevon Butler was locked in, going 5-for-5 from three and scoring 21 points in just 19 minutes of action. Raheem Anderson made four 3-pointers and had 21 points to go with five rebounds while Mitch Worcester recorded 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Chad Copeland led the Spartans with 12 points, six rebounds and two assists but was unable to score in the second half. Carnelius Green added 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks while Pavin Parrish finished with six points, six rebounds and one assist. Luke Czaplewski added seven points off the bench in the second half.

Bates 74, Wesleyan 66

At Lewiston, Graham Safford scored 22 of his game-high 31 points in the second half to lift Bates by Wesleyan University before a raucous crowd in Alumni Gymnasium.

While a snowstorm raged outside Alumni Gym, inside a near-capacity crowd inside lifted the Bobcats (13-4, 3-2 NESCAC) to their eighth home win in as many contests. Bates will host Connecticut College on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Wesleyan (13-6, 2-3 NESCAC) plays at Tufts at 2 p.m.

Safford made 4-of-6 shots from 3-point territory in the second half and all four free throws, in his fourth career game with 30 or more points, and his first this season. For the game he was 10-20 from the field, 5-10 from behind the arc, 6-6 at the line, while also handing out four assists and grabbing six rebounds. Mike Boornazian added 13 points, including 10 in the second half. Malcolm Delpeche led all players with 13 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Joe Edmonds scored 16 points to lead the Cardinals, while Jack Mackey and Harry Rafferty added 15 apiece. BJ Davis totaled 11 assists.

Thomas 74, Colby-Sawyer 63

At New London, Conn., Thomas overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Colby-Sawyer in a North Atlantic Conference game.

Levi Barnes scored a game-high 22 points to lead Thomas, which improves to 9-9 overall and 7-4, while the Chargers fall to 11-5 overall and 9-2 in the conference.

Thomas turned the game around in the second half, holding the Charger offense to 22.9 percent shooting.

Eric Westbrooks recorded a double-double for Thomas, scoring 16 points and grabbing a team best 10 rebounds. Mike Akanji was the third Terrier in double figures, scoring 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

Colby-Sawyer was led by junior Peter Donato, who scored 15 points and had 15 rebounds.

NEC 71, UMF 64

At Henniker, N.H., New England College’s Jonathan Barnes scored a game-high 25 points after hitting 4-for-5 from long range and 9-for-10 from the foul line in the win over UMaine-Farmington.

Uriah Forest-Bulley recorded a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals for UMF. Logan Nichols shot 5-for-15 from the floor to match Forest-Bulley with 14 points. Nick Hilton added 12 points and seven boards.

Trinity 67, Bowdoin 66 (OT)

At Hartford, Conn., in a battle for first place in the NESCAC, Trinity rallied from an eight-point second half deficit to tip Bowdoin in overtime.

The win gives the Bantams (15-5, 5-1) sole possession of first place in the league while the Polar Bears see their five-game winning streak snapped as they drop to 13-5 (4-2 NESCAC).

Lucas Hausman was outstanding again for Bowdoin, scoring a career-high 30 points, including a 13-13 effort from the free throw line. John Swords pitched in 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocks while Bryan Hurley had nine points and seven assists in the loss.

Trinity was led by 16 points apiece from Jaquann Starks and Rick Naylor.

Women’s Basketball

Husson 57, Castleton 49

At Castleton, Vt., Husson beat Castleton to hand the Spartans their first North Atlantic Conference loss of the season.

The Eagles improve to 9-2 in the NAC and 11-6 overall. Castleton stands at 10-1 in conference play and 14-4 overall.

The Eagles made just 24.0 percent of their shots from the floor in the second half, but went 19-for-24 from the charity stripe and outrebounded the Spartans 27-21 in the final 20 minutes. The Spartans, meanwhile, connected on just 19.4 percent of its shots in the second half and 28.8 percent overall.

Chandler Guerrette led Husson with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals while shooting 8-for-10 from the free throw line in the second half. Stephanie Comstock was also in double figures with 15 points and five rebounds while Katy Brochu added 11 points and nine boards.

For Castleton, sophomore Lindsay Sabo scored 16 of her career-high 21 points in the opening half and added three rebounds. Jade Desroches scored 17 points but shot just 5-for-23 from the field while adding six rebounds, four assists and three blocks.

Colby-Sawyer 90, Thomas 34

At New London, N.H., Colby-Sawyer College head coach George Martin recorded his 400th career victory after the Chargers defeated Thomas in North Atlantic Conference action.

Sophomore Lexi Iannone led all players with 17 points.

The Terriers were led by junior Katie McAllister. She was 10-of-12 from the free throw line and finished with 14 points, four assists and three steals. Junior Ashleigh Gagne had 11 points, while freshman Olivia Brown brought down a game-high 11 rebounds.

NEC 74, UMF 47

At Henniker, N.H., Taylor Burgess recorded 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead New England College (14-3) by UMaine-Farmington (7-11).

Meghan Smith led UMF with 10 points and six rebounds while Elizabeth Ferry added nine points.
