BOWDOINHAM, Maine — Firefighters called just before 1 a.m. Wednesday to smoke showing from a Post Road mobile home found flames breaking through the roof when they arrived, and were unable to quell the fire before the home was destroyed.

Both residents of the home — two young adults who had just moved into the rental on Saturday — got out safely, but the building and their belongings were a total loss, according to Bowdoinham Fire Chief Arthur Frizzle.

“The fire [started] between the ceiling and the roof area, so it had a chance to turn over and over,” Frizzle said.

No injuries were reported. The residents left the scene before firefighters were done battling the blaze, and are staying with local relatives, Frizzle said. He was not sure if the building was insured.

Unusually cold temperatures caused some equipment to freeze as crews fought the fire, but Frizzle said they encountered no other obstacles.

Firefighters from Bowdoin, Richmond and Topsham assisted at the scene.
