The recent barrage of snowstorms has put additional pressure on Maine high school athletic directors.
They have been trying to work around school closings and poor travel conditions to make sure their respective winter sports teams are safely able to complete their schedules.
The Maine Principals’ Association, which last week had extended the regular season by one day to help alleviate the scheduling crunch, has added another.
Maine Principals’ Association Executive Director Dick Durost sent an email this week to administrators that schools may use Saturday as the final makeup day for regular-season basketball games.
The original last countable date for regular-season basketball games, only for contests postponed on Feb. 5, had been Friday, Feb. 6.
Durost also reportedly informed schools that they may, as a last resort, schedule two games on the same day in order to get in the games.
Postseason play is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Feb. 10, with preliminary games. Regional tournament action at Bangor, Augusta and Portland is set to tip off on Friday, Feb. 13.
